Donny and Marie Charm New Generation (and one older skeptic)

A recent email exchange:

Me: “Have you heard of Donny and Marie Osmond?”
Daughter: “There is a guy named Alex who is a senior. Maybe those are his parents.”

Such is the generation gap that my kids have no knowledge of the so-wholesome-your-teeth-ache Osmond brothers or little-bit-country-little-bit-rock’n-roll flavored “Donny and Marie Show.”

Truth be told, I hadn’t really followed them much in the past few decades other than to have scant knowledge that Marie was on Dancing with the Stars where I once caught a brief glimpse of her in an ill-conceived doll costume.

But I was offered tickets to see them in Vegas and despite my lingering reservations that we’d be in for an endless medley of “Puppy Love” and “Paper Roses,” we decided to check it out. Read the full post »

Top Three Free Things in Vegas

Free in Vegas? Yes, there are plenty of places you can drop mega-bucks in Vegas, but there are also plenty of free attractions as well. Here are my top three picks for places where your wallet won’t suffer:

1. The Lion Habitat at MGM Grand
The crowds starting gathering right when we got there as the lions were due to arrive. Sure enough, three lions and their brave keeper strolled into the glass-encased display where you can even walk under them. Part of a group of 29, a few are brought in each day from the ranch where they live. After a bath with Johnson’s Baby Shampoo they are ready for their close-up.
Jan’s tip: Go right at 11:00 am when the lions first appear. Apparently they spend most of the rest of the day snoozing. Read the full post »
