Sometimes you want to branch out from the square hotel room and long for a well, quirky stay I’m in town for a bit, so naturally I’m doing a little Friday afternoon day dreamin’ about places I’d like to stay. Homestay.com shared some of its quirkier accommodations around the world. I’ve added a few of them to my “maybe some day” list. And one to the “hell no, never” list. And for budget travelers, the good news is one starts at just $13 a night.
For just 115 Euros a night, you can rent this charming 16th-century two-bedroom stone house in Avignon, France. Wouldn’t this be the perfect setting to work on that book?This treehouse in San Antonio de Escazu, San Jose, Costa Rica, has a private terrace and bed on an upper floor accessible by a ladder. And yes, it has wifi and the rate starts at $64!On the “maybe some day” list is this traditional Balinese house called “sikut satak” in Tampaksiring, Gianyar. A one-minute walk from the village, it has its own family temple and rates start at just $13.
Now for that “hell no, never” home. It’s located on Mykonos Island Greece, a place I long to visit. And it starts at just $136 a night? The problem? See if you can guess from the photo. While I would love to sleep under the stars in Greece, I’m not enough of a risk-taker to be this close to the edge. I generally do prefer my rooms to have walls.
You can’t argue with the views. And yes, there are two other bedrooms so you aren’t limited to sleeping on the precipice of the world. But I can just envision myself lying under the stars after a few glasses of ouzo, getting up to use the restroom, and then taking my final steps right off that roof.
